The Creative Process – no (AI) shortcuts required

by @poeticheart

So has anyone else thought about this fact:
If you create anything amazing (without AI), people are going to expect that somehow AI was used.

That’s a really hard thought, but I think it’s tragically legitimate.

(Hilariously, even now, as I type, AI is trying to tell what or how I should say it… 😆)

I feel truly sorry for creative beings in the next few years.

Already, the amount of services offering AI products and solutions instead of human interaction and development is astounding.

Why – because all we want is the end result. The final product is the only thing that matters – And we want the final product NOW, whether we deserve it or not.

We don’t have time to “waste” on working on a process, even if that process is a thousand times more fulfilling than any end product will ever be.

If we are not careful, AI will steal a sense of fulfillment and accomplishment in working on the PROCESS of a creativity.

Not because it’s anything great, but because we will start to feel like what we make without it is not good enough.

I don’t want the best award winners in any industry over the next few years to be those that can plug something into an AI console the best. Do you?

It just makes everything a joke.

Take the time to work on your craft. Work on your process – or find a process that works for you.

Use AI as a tool if you need to – but don’t let it rob you of the joy of working something out yourself from the initial idea to the final product – whether it’s up to standard or not.

You have the potential within you to produce your art your way – no assistance required. But I think now that takes more courage than ever.

As a final thought, I think there should be a seal of approval that AI was NOT used in the making of a product, as a sign of genuine human artistry and craftsmanship.
How about you?

Just my thoughts on this Friday afternoon…

  1. I think that we should mention when we use AI. I don’t think it is anything wrong with it but we should mention it. Another thing to remember is that if you use AI then your creation (writing, image, whatever it is) is no longer copyrighted. You can’t claim copy right on AI work.

    • Very true on all counts, Thomas. Thanks for your input into the discussion.
The same as robotics and other new technologies, it will cause major disruptions to those that aren’t using it. In music, people are choosing to use a few AI services instead of using real people to do creative jobs. The AI services are getting the funding that was spreading around the different aspects of the music industry (demo singers, producers, songwriters etc), which is once again – a few get rich and the others have less to contribute.

The same is happening for art. Why commission an artist, when a computer can work it out for you?
